The Sonoma County community is mourning after a tragic crash on Lakeville Highway claimed the life of one person on Friday afternoon, June 19, near the Highway 37 corridor southeast of Petaluma.

According to authorities, the collision was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. on southbound Lakeville Highway near Cannon Lane. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, and medical personnel responded quickly after receiving reports of a serious traffic accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered a severe collision that resulted in at least one fatality. Despite emergency efforts, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

The severity of the crash led officials to temporarily close all lanes of Lakeville Highway in the area, causing significant traffic delays along a major Sonoma County commuter route. Motorists were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while emergency crews worked at the scene.
